Bleeding in upper
intestinal tract presents as either blood vomitings or as black stools.
It is important to
remember that black stools is a sign of bleeding and should prompt urgent
investigations. Upper GI bleeding merits an urgent upper GI endoscopy. Almost
all bleeds can be controlled by a timely endoscopy. The doctor can do injection
or banding to stop the upper GI bleeding.
